Microsoft to Cut 10,000 Jobs Amid Covid Caution, Costing $1.2bn

Has announced that it will cut 10,000 jobs in the latest round of staff redundancies. this will affect up to 5% of its global workforce, with the cost to the business being $1.2bn in severance and reorganisation costs. microsoft chief executive satya nadella said customers are now choosing to “exercise caution”.

Job cuts began last year as business slowed and hundreds of tech firms have revealed layoffs in recent weeks, including amazon and instagram-owner meta. microsoft had previously seen its workforce grow by roughly 40,000 between june 2021 and june 2022.

Business boomed during the pandemic due to the increase in remote work and other online activity. however, as customer spending grew during covid, more customers began to choose to “exercise caution” according to microsoft chief executive satya nadella. this has led to the latest round of job cuts, with microsoft looking to reduce its global workforce by up to 5%.
