Murray-bartlett has completed an incredible feat – a 6,300km (3,900 miles) journey, running a marathon every day for 150 days. this has set a new world record for the most consecutive daily marathons by a woman and has raised over a$100,000 (â£57,000, $70,000) for conservation charity the wilderness society. the ambitious journey was undertaken to raise awareness of the extinction crisis facing australian animals and plants.
Challenge began in february 2020 and took erchana across the continent from perth in western australia to melbourne in the east. along the way, she faced a range of extreme weather conditions, from torrential rain to heat upwards of 35c (95f). she consumed between 5,000 and 6,000 calories a day to fuel her runs and suffered sunburn, blisters, aches, and bites from ants, mosquitos, and spiders.
Faced incredible challenges, but was determined to succeed in her mission to raise awareness of australia’s biodiversity crisis. she was overwhelmed by the support she received, with people donating in droves and some even running parts of the journey with her. by the time she ran into melbourne, her feet had swollen an entire shoe size and she’d burned through ten pairs of runners. she crossed the finish line on monday evening to news that she had raised almost double her original fundraising target.
