1: colombian singer shakira’s song “out of your league” has broken youtube records with 63 million views in 24 hours. the song is a collaboration with argentinian producer and dj bizarrap and is the first time they have worked together. the song was released three months ago as a heartbreak song and is a diss track about shakira’s former partner, former barcelona footballer gerard pique, and his new 23-year-old partner.
2: the couple had been together for 10 years and have two children. they released a statement when they split in june last year. shakira is currently being accused of failing to pay €14.5m in income tax. she claims pique left her whilst all this was going on, with her in-laws as neighbours.
3: in the song, shakira compares pique’s new relationship to swapping “a ferrari for a [renault] twingo” and a “rolex for a casio” in spanish. she also criticises pique’s workout technique and says she is “worth two 22-year-olds”. pique has not responded to the song online and has been posting about his new seven-a-side project, king’s league. bbc has contacted pique for comment. shakira’s song has joined a hallowed list of latin performers to break youtube records.
