1: on wednesday morning, a knife attack at paris’s gare du nord station left six people injured, one of them in critical condition. the suspected attacker was shot three times by two off-duty police officers who were returning home from a shift. a border force officer was among the injured.
2: the attack occurred within one minute and caused major delays to trains at the station during the early morning rush. police cordoned off the station and set up large white curtains around the attack scene. paris gare du nord is one of the busiest international railway stations in europe, serving around 700,000 travellers a day.
3: authorities are trying to determine the motive of the attack, while criminal investigators have taken control of the case for now. the suspected attacker did not have identity documents on him at the time he was taken to hospital and police are yet to name him. interior minister gerald darmanin praised the police for their “brave and effective” intervention.
