2: walters began her career in journalism in 1961 with nbc, and made history again in 1974 when she became the first female co-host of a us news programme. she made yet another milestone in 1976 when she became the first female network news anchor, for which she was paid a $1m salary.

3: walters was the daughter of a showbusiness booking agent, and had a career spanning half a century. in 2000, she received a lifetime achievement award from the national academy of television arts and sciences. she lived her life with no regrets, and was a trailblazer for female journalists and all women.
