Three Dead in Ukrainian Drone Attack on Russian Airbase

Ukrainian military and the russian military were involved in a drone attack on the engels bomber base in south russia. the attack left three people dead, according to moscow. air defences reportedly shot down the drone and the falling debris caused the casualties in the overnight attack. russia has accused ukraine of carrying out a similar attack on the same airfield on 5 december.

Attack occurred at approximately 01:35 local time on monday (22:35 gmt sunday). the engels air base is located approximately 500km (310 miles) north-east of the border with ukraine. the governor of saratov region said that there was no threat to residents of the town of engels itself.

Attack was reportedly carried out by a ukrainian drone flying at low altitude which was shot down by russian air defences. the debris from the downed drone caused the casualties in the overnight attack. russia has accused ukraine of carrying out similar attacks before, but the alleged attacks in december are deeper into russia than previous ones. social media users posted videos of what sound like blasts and air sirens at the engels airfield.
