“Ukraine’s President Urges Perseverance in Face of Russian Attacks as Country Celebrates Christmas”

Saturday, ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky urged his people to persevere in the face of russian attacks as the country celebrated christmas. russian missile and drone attacks had left millions of ukrainians without power, heating and running water. earlier on saturday, russian air strikes killed 10 people and injured 68 in ukraine’s southern kherson city. local residents were urged to donate blood.
when the attacks occurred, it was during the christmas celebration in ukraine. the attacks took place in the city of kherson, which was the only regional capital captured by russia since it launched its full-scale invasion on 24 february. moscow has denied targeting civilians in its attacks, but president vladimir putin has admitted that russian troops have been hitting ukraine’s critical energy facilities.
the attacks happened due to the ongoing war between ukraine and russia. mr zelensky described russia as a “terrorist country” and accused them of “killing for the sake of intimidation and pleasure”. fierce fighting continued in ukraine’s eastern donbas region on saturday, where russian troops attacked the strategic town of bakhmut. mr zelensky showed pictures of streets strewn with bodies and burning cars, saying “the world must see and understand what absolute evil we are fighting against”. ukrainians say the hardships have only made them stronger as the war enters its 11th month. freedom comes at a high price, but slavery has an even higher price.
