1: 25 people were arrested in raids across germany on suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government. among them was heinrich xiii, a man from an old aristocratic family, who is one of two alleged ringleaders of the group. the suspects are said to include members of the reichsbã¼rger movement and those from the qanon movement, and the group is thought to consist of an organisation “council” and a military arm.
2: three thousand officers took part in 150 operations across 11 of germany’s 16 states, resulting in two arrests in austria and italy. the group had allegedly been planning a violent coup since november 2021 and its central “rat” had held regular meetings. the uncovering of the group is thought to have been prompted by a kidnap plot last april perpetrated by a gang who called themselves united patriots.
3: the group had intended to replace the republic with a second reich modelled on the germany of 1871 and had established plans to rule germany by “military means and violence against state representatives”. heinrich xiii is suspected of leading a group of 25 people suspected of planning to abduct germany’s health minister karl lauterbach and potentially create civil war conditions. several violent attacks have been linked to germany’s far-right in recent years and the reichsbã¼rger movement is estimated to have as many as 21,000 followers, of whom around 5% are considered to belong to the extreme right. justice minister marco buschmann tweeted that a suspected “armed attack on constitutional bodies was planned”.
