Least 155 people were injured in a train crash on the outskirts of barcelona on monday morning. two trains, travelling in the same direction, collided while one was parked at the montcada i reixac – manresa station, about 12km (7 miles) from the city centre. emergency services reported that 150 people were “in a mild condition” and five others had been left “in a less serious condition”, with three people having been transferred to hospital.
Crash occurred around 07:50 (06:50 gmt) and train traffic was briefly disrupted on several lines due to the incident. passengers reported a “tremendous blow” with people screaming and others having blood on them due to the impact.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and the president of the catalan regional government has called for urgent “explanations” into the incident from the rail operator renfe and the spanish government. spanish transport minister raquel sã¡nchez has said she is closely monitoring the situation and wishes a “speedy recovery” to the injured.
